Donald Trump is now also selling medicines. The government website TrumpRx has been online for a week, through which American consumers can obtain prescription drugs at discounts of up to 93 percent on the package price. This is a prestige project of the president, who wants to force foreign pharmaceutical companies to reduce high healthcare costs.
It is therefore all the more striking that among the 43 medications currently available on TrumpRx, there is no Swiss-made medication to be found. Last year, Novartis and the American Roche subsidiary Genentech made a promise at the White House to support the president in his price offensive.
Novartis wants to sell three drugs through TrumpRx
Inquiry at Novartis: Where is the MS drug Mayzent, which, according to CEO Vas Narasimhan, is also to be sold via TrumpRx? The answer: Novartis is currently developing its own internet platform through which patients will be able to purchase at least three prescription medications directly in the future. This website will go online “next month”. Novartis plans to make the drugs Mayzent, Rydapt (leukemia) and Tabrecta (lung cancer) also available on TrumpRx, a spokesman said.
And what does Genentech’s media office say? The American Roche subsidiary says it is pleased to continue working with the US government to sell anti-flu drugs such as Xofluza through TrumpRx. However, the Genentech spokeswoman did not want to announce a date.
The current leader on TrumpRx is Pfizer. The American pharmaceutical company sells 31 medications via the platform. AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk and EMD Serono are also represented.
