According to media reports, the head of the special investigation into the Russia affair surrounding US President Donald Trump, Robert Mueller, is dead. The former long-time FBI director died at the age of 81, reported the US broadcaster MS Now and the New York Times, citing his family. Last year it became known that Mueller had Parkinson’s disease.
In his first reaction to Mueller’s death, Trump wrote on Truth Social: “Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer harm innocent people!”. As a special investigator from 2017 to 2019, Mueller investigated possible Russian interference in the 2016 US election in favor of Trump – to the annoyance of the president.

However, Mueller found no evidence that there had been any collusion between the Trump campaign team and Russian representatives before the election. Mueller did not rule out obstruction of justice by Trump. Nevertheless, Trump viewed the report as exoneration – he repeatedly described the investigation as a “witch hunt”.
The slowly progressive disease Parkinson’s causes the death of cells in the brain that produce the neurotransmitter dopamine, which the body uses to control movements. Tremors are a typical consequence for those affected. (sda/dpa)
