The devastating air attack on a girls’ school in the southern Iranian city of Minab on February 28, 2026 is developing into a serious diplomatic and military debacle for the US government. New revelations suggest that target selection was based on completely outdated intelligence data.

According to reports in the New York Times and CNN, the US military planned the attack using satellite images from 2013. At that time, a school and an Iranian Revolutionary Guard base were located on the affected site.

Since 2016, however, a wall has separated the military area from the neighboring school. Where guard towers once stood, there were playgrounds and brightly painted walls at the time of the attack. Satellite images from late 2025 even showed children playing in the yard – information that appeared to have been ignored or overlooked when the attack was released.
