Two fatal avalanche accidents occurred again in France on Monday. A 38-year-old skier died in Sainte-Agnès near Grenoble. The public prosecutor’s office in the Hautes-Alpes department had previously also reported an avalanche death.
The young skier died in an avalanche in the French municipality of Montgenèvre on Monday. Another skier who accompanied him in this off-piste area remained uninjured, as the responsible public prosecutor’s office announced on Monday evening.
At the weekend, two winter sports enthusiasts were killed in another accident near Saint-Véran, the highest village in the French Alps. According to the prosecutor, the two victims were part of a group of four ski tourers when an avalanche occurred on the north side of the Tête de Longet mountain. This group was also traveling off-piste unaccompanied.
At least twenty skiers have already died this year in avalanches in various mountain ranges in the Alps – in Austria, Italy, France and Switzerland. (sda/blg/afp)
