Two boys aged 12 and 13 have been stabbed at a school in north-west London. A 13-year-old who is said to have fled from school in the Brent district after the knife attack is considered a suspect, said Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams of the London Met Police. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of attempted murder, Williams said. A weapon was also seized.
According to the information, the two boys are in a serious condition and are receiving emergency treatment. “We are waiting for an update on her condition, but we believe the situation is serious,” said Williams.
According to Williams, the investigation is now being led by the London Anti-Terrorism Police due to the circumstances. However, the incident is currently not classified as terrorist, said Williams. The background is still unclear.
Interior Minister speaks of “shocking attack”
British Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson expressed her dismay in an X article. The ministry is in contact with the school and community. “My deepest sympathy goes out to the families affected as well as the young people, teachers and the entire school community,” wrote the minister.
Interior Minister Shabana Mahmood also spoke on X of a “shocking attack”. The police must now be given the “necessary freedom” for further investigations.
Great Britain has been struggling with knife violence for years. Very young, often male, teenagers are often involved – as victims and perpetrators. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has already described knife violence in 2024 as a national crisis. (sda/dpa)
