US President Donald Trump defended the massive military offensive against Iran in a speech and described it as one of the largest operations in history. In the past 36 hours, the USA and its partners have carried out “Operation Epic Fury” – one of the “most complex and overwhelming” military operations that has ever taken place.
According to Trump, hundreds of targets in Iran were attacked, including Revolutionary Guard facilities and air defense systems. In addition, nine Iranian ships and a naval facility were destroyed “within minutes”. Trump further stated that Iran’s previous Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was dead. The country’s entire military leadership was also “deactivated”. Numerous people responsible would now ask for immunity and want to surrender.
First US fatality confirmed
At the same time, US Central Command confirmed the deaths of three American soldiers. Five others were seriously injured. “As a nation, we mourn the loss of true American patriots,” Trump said. Further victims are “unfortunately likely” before the operation is completed. America will avenge the death of its soldiers and “deal the hardest blow to the terrorists.”
Combat operations would continue at full strength until all objectives were achieved. Trump emphasized that the determination of the USA and Israel is “stronger than ever”.
Warning about Iranian missiles and nuclear weapons
Trump justified the offensive with the threat posed by the Iranian regime. An Iran with long-range missiles and nuclear weapons represents a “direct threat to every American.” A state that supports terrorist organizations will not be allowed to have such weapons. The USA is the “strongest military the world has ever seen” and is now using it “for a good purpose”.
For almost 50 years, the Iranian regime has been attacking the USA and chanting “Death to America” or “Death to Israel”. These threats would no longer be tolerated. Trump called on members of the Revolutionary Guard, the military and the police to lay down their weapons and accept immunity – otherwise they would face “certain death”.
Appeal to the Iranian people
Finally, Trump addressed the Iranian people directly. Iranian patriots who wanted freedom should “seize this moment” and take back their country. “America is with you,” he said. The USA would support, but the further course of events now rests in the hands of the Iranian people.
Trump concluded his speech with thanks to the US armed forces and a call for national cohesion.
