Extraterrestrials, UFOs and other unknown phenomena: US President Donald Trump wants to have government files published on these and other “highly complex but extremely interesting and important topics”. Because of the “enormous interest,” he instructed Defense Minister Pete Hegseth and other ministries and agencies to identify relevant material and later release it, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
It was initially unclear the scope of the planned publication and by when the information would actually be made available to the public. Recently there was pressure on Trump to publish all files on the deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Critics accuse the government of blacking out too many places and withholding some things.
A few days ago, former President Barack Obama jokingly answered a question in a podcast that extraterrestrials were “real”. But he himself hasn’t seen any yet, said the Democrat.
The Republican Trump then accused him on Thursday of having “revealed” secret information and thus made a “big mistake”. Trump did not say what type of supposedly secret information was involved.
Obama clarifies his statement about aliens on Instagram
A few days after his seemingly joking statement, Obama clarified in an Instagram post: “Statistically speaking, the universe is so huge that it is likely that there is extraterrestrial life out there.” Given the distances between different solar systems, it is unlikely that Earth has been visited by aliens. During his presidency, he himself said there was “no evidence whatsoever that extraterrestrials had made contact with us. Really!” (pre/sda)
