US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner has presented a plan for the future of the Gaza Strip. The prerequisite for the phased reconstruction of the area is the disarmament of Hamas, he said at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss ski resort of Davos. “That’s what we’re going to enforce.” However, Hamas has so far rejected this.
According to the “master plan” presented by Kushner, the city of Rafah is to be rebuilt first, followed by other towns to the north. Around 100,000 residential units and at least 75 medical facilities are to be built in “New Rafah”, according to the American’s presentation.

Kushner said it would take two to three years to rebuild the city of Rafah. “We have already started clearing the rubble and carrying out some of the demolition work,” said Trump’s son-in-law. The Gaza Strip was extensively destroyed in the war between Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas. More than two million people live in the area.
Gaza’s coast is to become a tourist area
The coastal section of the strip is intended for tourism, residential and industrial areas are to be located behind it, in the interior of the Gaza Strip, as can be seen from a graphic in the presentation. Among other things, plans include an airport in the south of the area that borders Egypt. Also featured at the presentation was an image showing skyscrapers and tree-lined streets on the coast.

“We believe that this really gives the people of Gaza the opportunity to realize their hopes,” said Kushner about the reconstruction plan presented.
Kushner initially did not comment on the costs. It also remained unclear who should wear them. He announced that there would be a conference in Washington in the coming weeks to discuss investments in the area. (sda/dpa)
