An 80-year-old tourist in Tenerife tried to fly back home with his dead wife in a wheelchair.
During the incident last fall at Tenerife Sur airport, he made it through security checks, as the police only now confirmed upon request. The staff there became suspicious of the lifeless older woman. An employee was horrified and noticed that her hand was already completely cold. An emergency doctor was only able to determine that the woman was dead.

Since the police found no evidence of a crime, the man was not arrested. The police were unable to say where he and his wife came from or where exactly they wanted to fly abroad. It is also unknown whether the man was even aware that his wife had died, said a police spokeswoman. (hkl/sda/dpa)
