Tesla boss Elon Musk is also relying on robotaxis and robots in Europe. “We will introduce Tesla’s fully autonomous driving, i.e. an AI-controlled car,” said Musk in his own video interview on Portal X (Thursday).

«Tesla has the most advanced AI for everyday life, and hopefully it will soon be approved in Europe. I was informed by the authorities that registration in the Netherlands should take place on March 20th. Hopefully it stays that way.”
He added: “I believe that this year it will be technically possible to fall asleep in a Tesla and wake up again at your destination.”
Musk: Cybercab and Optimus also planned in Europe
Production of the Cybercab robotaxi vehicle without steering wheel and pedals is scheduled to begin this year. Tesla also wants to start production of the Optimus robot in 2026. The company boss had promised that they could be offered for sale “to the public” by the end of 2027.
“If everything goes well, we will probably also produce the Cybercab and the Optimus in Europe,” said Musk. “The Tesla Semi, Tesla’s heavy truck, is also manufactured in Europe.”
Tesla wants to be number one in autonomous driving
So far, Tesla has only used a few driverless robotaxis in the Texas city of Austin, which are still accompanied by guards in the passenger seat. Musk plans for Tesla to be number one in autonomous driving and robotaxis in a few years.

Google sister company Waymo operates driverless cars in several US cities. It is controversial whether it provides enough safety to only use cameras for autonomous driving, as Tesla intended.
Tesla’s previous core business, selling cars, is currently shrinking. The electric car manufacturer’s only car factory in Europe is in Germany – in Grünheide near Berlin. (sda/awp/dpa)
