The anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office has begun an investigation after a foiled bomb attack on an American bank in Paris. Police forces prevented the attack on the Paris headquarters of Bank of America that night and arrested a suspect on site, the public prosecutor’s office said. He is being investigated for manufacturing incendiary or explosive devices as well as attempted arson and damage to property in connection with a terrorist organization.
Nothing was initially known about the background to the attempted attack or the identity of the suspect. France’s Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez praised the rapid intervention of a task force from the Paris Police Prefecture, which “made it possible to thwart a violent terrorist attack.”
Vigilance remains at the highest level more than ever and the security and intelligence services are fully mobilized in view of the current international situation. The minister did not comment on a possible connection with the Iran war. (sda/dpa)
