The spokesman for the Islamist Taliban has defended the recent attacks on Pakistan and threatened further violence in the event of further Pakistani attacks on Afghanistan.
“If they continue the war, we have the strength to continue operations,” said Taliban government spokesman Sabiullah Mujahid at a press conference. Islamabad has repeatedly attacked Afghanistan under pretexts, killing civilians and thereby violating international law.
Responding to allegations from Islamabad that Kabul was harboring Pakistani Taliban (TTP) terrorists, Mujahid said the TTP was “Pakistan’s internal security problem that has existed for years and has nothing to do with Afghanistan.” There were again civilian casualties in the Pakistani air strikes this morning (local time). There were injured people, including women and children. 13 Taliban security forces were killed and another 22 were injured.

The spokesman reported that Afghan security forces had captured 19 military posts from the opposing side and 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed. Mujahid said 13 Taliban fighters were killed. The information could not initially be independently verified.
During the night, tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan escalated again. Kabul attacked several Pakistani posts in the border area on Thursday evening. During the night, Islamabad also carried out air strikes on cities in the interior of Afghanistan. The Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif described the conflict with the neighboring country as an “open war” that night. (sda/dpa)
