Donald Trump wants the Nobel Peace Prize. Because that didn’t work out in 2025, his supporters want to push through a nomination this year. However, the Swiss representative contacted is holding back.

Donald Trump desperately wants to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He has made this clear dozens of times. In his own perception of reality, the US President has already ended eight wars, as he has stated many times – but the Oslo Nobel Prize Committee simply does not seem to want to recognize the US President’s efforts.
Has what Trump really wants: Maria Corina Machado was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.Image: keystone
In 2025, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado was awarded the prize. The fact that Machado dedicated it to Trump and was even prepared to symbolically hand it over to him has no bearing on the US President.
Because some of his loyal supporters know how much the recognition would mean to the 79-year-old, they announced last fall that they wanted to get Trump officially nominated for the 2026 award. The Israeli Parliament Speaker Amir Ohana and Mike Johnson, Speaker of the US House of Representatives and loyal Trump subordinate, were in charge. They appealed to parliamentary speakers from different countries and wanted to get them to support Trump’s nomination.
A corresponding request was also received from the President of the Swiss Council of States, Stefan Engler. Now Engler has the opposite Sunday view commented on this. He rejected the request from the Israeli Ohana, pointing out that “council presidents are not authorized to sign appeals of this kind themselves or on behalf of the respective chamber.” This means: Switzerland will not recommend Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The US President actually repeatedly advocates for peace, including in the war between Ukraine and Russia. His most important success was achieving a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. However, the situation in the Middle East remains fragile and conflicts continue to arise. It is also questionable whether the peace plan drawn up last year can be implemented. Trump’s newly created “Peace Council” is scheduled to meet for the first time shortly for the second phase of the plan. Among other things, this provides for the disarmament of Hamas.
This contrasts with Trump’s interventionist foreign policy. Not only did he have Venezuela’s dictator Nicolas Maduro kidnapped off the coast after weeks of attacks and killings of alleged drug smugglers, he also actually threatened allied states such as Canada and Greenland, which belongs to Denmark, with annexation to the USA. He also had Iran’s nuclear facilities bombed last year. There is currently a renewed threat of escalation with Iran. (con)
