With this flight, Swiss wanted to make a contribution to help those affected in the difficult situation, Swiss said. This flight is intended primarily to enable stranded Swiss travelers to return from the crisis area. Muscat is not one of the airline’s regular destinations.
According to the communiqué, passengers who already have a Swiss ticket but were unable to make the return journey due to the current situation will be on board.
Other Swiss citizens who have registered with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA) and are residing in Oman would receive information on the relevant booking hotline on Wednesday morning.
Close coordination with the EDA
The flight takes place in close coordination between Swiss and the EDA, as the Foreign Ministry also confirmed. However, it is not a subsidized evacuation flight, but rather an independent operation by the airline.
Independent of this special operation, the situation in the Gulf states is being continually monitored, Swiss continues. We are continually evaluating when and under what conditions individual flight destinations could be resumed.
Around 4,800 Swiss travelers were stranded in the Middle East on Tuesday following the American-Israeli offensive against Iran. According to the EDA, stranded Swiss travelers can register for a flight on the “Travel Admin” platform. (sda)
