The Supreme Court of the USA has declared parts of the tariffs imposed by US President Trump to be illegal.
The decision does not apply to all tariffs, but only to those that Trump imposed under a law intended for national emergencies.
The Supreme Court ruled against Trump’s tariff policy with a vote of 6 to 3. It is a bitter political defeat for the US President, because the Supreme Court is dominated by conservative judges. Trump even appointed three of the judges himself. The decision will have a significant impact on the US economy and Trump’s trade policy.
However, this does not mean that his customs policy is buried. The US President has other legal options to impose tariffs on goods from abroad. (ome)
