The 36-year-old will be honored this year alongside Kiss members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley and Canadian singer Alanis Morissette (“Ironic”), the organization said.
“Taylor Swift is perhaps the best-known singer-songwriter of her generation and has a unique talent,” says the Hall of Fame’s statement about the 14-time Grammy winner. “Swift’s ability to transform as a songwriter” is “part of her superpower as a songwriter.”
Swift will officially be inducted into the songwriters’ hall of fame at a gala in New York in June along with a total of eight other artists. The pop singer wrote her own songs as a teenager and regularly sets chart records with her albums.
Founded in 1969, the Songwriters Hall of Fame honors those “whose work represents a spectrum of the most popular songs from the songbook of global popular music.” Its members include and have already included stars such as Cyndi Lauper, Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey, Pharrell Williams and David Bowie.
