According to authorities, the number of deaths in a serious train accident in Thailand has risen to at least 22.

Around 70 other passengers were injured, some seriously, the newspaper Khaosod reported, citing the police. In the morning (local time) a passenger train crashed into an overturned construction crane at full speed.

The accident occurred in Nakhon Ratchasima province, about 230 kilometers northeast of Bangkok. According to the state railway operator (SRT), 195 people were said to have been on board the train. (sda/dpa)
