The Dutch Queen Máxima volunteered for military service. The 54-year-old queen will become a reservist, the court in The Hague announced. According to information, King Willem-Alexander’s wife had her first day of service on Wednesday. After a short military training, she will work in the armed forces for some time.
Máxima is following the example of her eldest daughter Amalia. The Crown Princess had only recently completed her basic training as a reservist. She will do her part-time service parallel to her studies.
Dutch reservists are a flexible army reserve. For example, they can be called up in emergencies such as floods or in the event of war.

Maxima already has experience
Máxima already gained some experience. Last October she took part in a border police exercise. At that time she was wearing camouflage clothing and had dark make-up on her face. The 54-year-old queen reported for duty just in time. Because the maximum age is 55 years and the native Argentine reaches that in May.
According to the court, Máxima decided to join the service because “our security can no longer be taken for granted and she, like many others, would like to make a contribution to this security”.
