After revelations in the Epstein case, former French culture minister Jack Lang has been placed under police protection because of threats on social networks, according to media reports. The interim measure was ordered by the Interior Ministry, several French media reported. The threats were also indirectly directed against Lang’s wife Monique Buczynski, who should also receive protection.

Lang’s connections to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein had previously become known. The financial public prosecutor’s office had initiated preliminary investigations against the 86-year-old and his daughter Caroline Lang on suspicion of money laundering and serious tax fraud as a result of research by the investigative medium “Mediapart”.
The former minister had rejected the allegations. With regard to his close relationship with Epstein, he cited his “naivety”. However, under pressure, he resigned from his post as president of the Paris cultural institute “Institut du monde Arabe” on Saturday. (hkl/sda/dpa)
