Pokémon trading card sold at auction for $16.5 million

A rare Pokémon trading card was auctioned in the USA for a record price of almost 16.5 million dollars (13.9 million euros). The seller of the card called “Pikachu Illustrator” is the influencer and wrestler Logan Paul, the buyer is the venture capitalist AJ Scaramucci, as the Goldin auction house from the US state of New Jersey announced.
According to him, it is the most expensive trading card ever sold at auction. This has been confirmed by Guinness World Records.
The auction lasted a good 40 days. It was only on the last day that the bids increased dramatically. On Monday the amount offered tripled. Paul had worn the card with a diamond necklace at Wrestlemania 38 in 2022. The necklace also went to the highest bidder. (sda/dpa)
