China has been conducting a major military maneuver around Taiwan for two days. Now Taiwan is also flexing its muscles and showing what it has to offer militarily.

According to the Chinese military, various missions were practiced north and south of Taiwan: missions against sea targets, air defense and submarine defense. In addition, shooting exercises with live ammunition were carried out and destroyers, frigates and other fighter and bomber aircraft were in use. A simulated joint long-range attack by the army, navy, air force and rocket troops was also practiced.
Taiwan responds to aggression
According to the Ministry of Defense in Taipei, the Chinese military exercise is the second largest that China has ever carried out against Taiwan – at least in terms of the number of missions by Chinese military aircraft and drones over Taiwan.
The Taiwanese government describes the maneuver as “provocative and reckless actions.” These would not only severely impact peace and stability in the region, but would also pose significant security risks and disruption to air routes, shipping and trade routes.
Taiwan’s military responds to the Chinese provocation and also moves into combat position. Videos released by the Taiwanese military are intended to demonstrate the island nation’s defense capabilities.
Possible response to arms deliveries
China began the exercise on Monday under the code name “Mission Justice 2025”. Beijing described the exercises as a “serious warning” to “separatist forces”. Since 2022, China has repeatedly carried out large military exercises of this type around Taiwan. According to observers, China’s current maneuver can also be understood as a reaction to the arms deliveries worth several billion US dollars to Taiwan recently approved by the USA.
Although Taiwan has a democratic government independent of China, Beijing considers the island part of its territory.
