The son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Marius Borg Høiby, has to be held in custody for at least four weeks because of further allegations of violence. This was decided by a judge in Oslo in the afternoon, as the NTB news agency reported. Høiby was arrested on Sunday evening. The 29-year-old is suspected of physical assault, threatening with a knife and violating a ban on visitors, the police said.
Høiby is said to have been abusive over the weekend and the arrest took place on Sunday evening. He initially did not comment on the new allegations.

A trial against Høiby begins this Tuesday (from 9:30 a.m.) in Oslo, which is also receiving a lot of attention in Germany. The Crown Princess’s son from a previous relationship has so far been charged with 38 counts – including rape, abuse in close relationships, bodily harm, damage to property and violations of bans on visits. In particular, he rejects the allegations of sexual offenses.
The first allegations were made in 2024 – the number has grown steadily since then. Most recently, six more charges were added just a few weeks ago: Marius Borg Høiby is said to have stored and transported around 3.5 kilos of marijuana and to have driven a motorcycle too fast several times.
Statements from alleged victims and witnesses
In the summer of 2024, he admitted that he had become violent towards his girlfriend at the time while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine and that he had destroyed things in her apartment. In a statement at the time, he reported psychological problems and that he had been struggling with substance abuse for a long time. The investigators are certain that he was guilty of a whole series of crimes, including several sexual offenses under the Norwegian rape law. The presumption of innocence applies until a final conviction is made.
The process is expected to last until mid-March. After reading out the indictment and the pleadings on the first day, Høiby is expected to respond to the allegations against him on the second day of the trial. Several alleged victims and witnesses also have their say, including ex-girlfriends of the defendant. There are strict guidelines for reporting on women. Many of the depositions take place behind closed doors. The media interest is immense. (dab/sda/dpa)
