Seven double-decker carriages of a night train from Moscow to Chelyabinsk derailed and overturned. There were no deaths, the authorities said, according to a report by the Russian state news agency Tass. There were 415 passengers on board, 24 of whom suffered minor or moderate injuries.
A “worn track bed” could have been the cause.Image: keystone
A video on the Telegram channel “Baza” shows how people climbed out of the overturned cars. The accident occurred near Bryandino in the Ulyanovsk region, almost 800 kilometers east of Moscow. It would have been that far again until Chelyabinsk in Western Siberia. The Russian State Investigative Committee named a worn track bed as a possible cause of the accident, as the Interfax news agency reported. (sda/dpa)
