According to authorities, at least eleven people were injured in a Ukrainian air strike on the Russian republic of Udmurtia, which is known for its arms factories. Three people were taken to hospital, the republic’s regional health minister, Sergei Bagin, said on Telegram in the capital Izhesk.
According to unverifiable reports on social networks, a defense factory in the city of Votkinsk, around 50 kilometers northeast of Izhevsk, which is important for the production of Iskander and Oreshnik missiles, was hit. Residents in the region west of the Ural Mountains also posted footage on social media of a fire and damage. Accordingly, a factory for the production of rocket engines was said to have been the target. There was no official confirmation of this.
The head of the republic speaks of damage and injuries
Previously, the head of the Udmurt Republic, Alexander Brechalov, reported that an object had been attacked with drones. He spoke of damage and injuries. He didn’t give any details – not even the exact location. In the capital Izhevsk there were temporarily no take-offs and landings due to air alerts at the airport.

According to media in Kiev, it was not drones that were used for the attack, but rather a Flamingo cruise missile. There was no official confirmation of this either. However, comments also pointed out that the target was 1,500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border – and that the attack was further proof that Kiev has the capabilities for momentous counterattacks deep in the Russian hinterland.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian war of aggression for almost four years. This Tuesday (February 24) marks the anniversary of the start of the invasion, which is entering its fifth year. (sda/dpa)
