Iran has rejected a ceasefire in the war against the USA and Israel and instead called for, among other things, a permanent end to the war. This was reported by the state broadcaster Irib. Accordingly, Tehran handed over a ten-point demand paper to intermediaries. Tehran rejects a ceasefire, citing “previous experiences” – meaning that both the current attacks by the USA and Israel and the Twelve-Day War began last year, although Tehran had expected further negotiations with Washington.
The paper therefore repeats Iran’s well-known positions: Iran is calling for a permanent end to the war, war reparations for reconstruction and the complete lifting of economic sanctions against the country. Tehran is also demanding a binding protocol for shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. The country had made it clear in recent weeks that it claimed control over the passage and was planning a toll system for the passage.
Pakistani intelligence circles had previously said on Monday that the USA and Iran had been presented with a plan for a 45-day ceasefire, during which peace talks would be held and a final agreement would be proposed. In overnight contacts, the US insisted that Iran open the Strait of Hormuz before announcing a ceasefire. Tehran rejected this condition.
US President Donald Trump had given Tehran an ultimatum to release shipping traffic through the important strait, which expires on Wednesday night CEST. (sda/dpa)
