In the case of US television presenter Savannah Guthrie’s mother, who has been missing for more than a week, the US Federal Police FBI has released the first photos and videos of a suspect. According to FBI Director Kash Patel, the recordings show an armed person who apparently manipulated a camera on the front door of Nancy Guthrie’s home in Tucson, Arizona, on the morning of the disappearance. The images and videos were reconstructed from previously inaccessible residual data, said Patel on the X platform.

The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona have been working with private companies for more than a week to restore lost or damaged video and images. According to the information, the recordings now published come from leftover data that was stored in technical background systems after surveillance devices were removed from the crime scene.
84-year-old Nancy Guthrie has been missing since the end of January. The investigators assume a kidnapping. In the past few days, after several blackmail letters, Guthrie and her two siblings had repeatedly addressed the largely unknown alleged kidnappers in video messages and most recently hinted at a possible ransom payment. A deadline for paying six million US dollars (around 5.05 million euros), which had been requested in a letter, passed on Monday evening – the consequences are unclear.
The FBI recently offered a reward of $50,000 for information that leads to the discovery of Guthrie or the arrest and conviction of those responsible. (sda/dpa)
