Package travel

Following yesterday’s debate, MEPs will vote at noon on an update to the Package Travel Directive. Designed to clarify holidaymakers’ rights to assistance and compensation in cases of travel disruption, the new rules build on lessons learned during the pandemic and following several high-profile travel agency bankruptcies.

European Ombudsman

At 9.00, MEPs will debate the European Ombudsman’s 2024 annual report withTeresa Anjinho, who was sworn in as European Ombudsman in February 2025, and European Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra. The European Ombudsman is responsible for investigating maladministration within the institutions, bodies, offices, and agencies of the European Union. MEPs will vote on Parliament’s report at noon.

In brief

Rail transport safety. Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas will join MEPS from around 11.00 to discuss lessons learnt from Spain’s Adamuz disaster in January this year and from the 2023 Tempi tragedy in Greece.

Obesity. From around 10.00, Parliament will debate Europe’s obesity problem with Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra, focusing on both prevention and treatment.

Laughing gas. Rounding off the March plenary session, Commissioner Hoekstra will join MEPs from 15.00 for a debate on a possible restriction on the sale of nitrous oxide to the general public, to protect human health and the environment.


Votes

At noon, MEPs will vote, among others, on:

  • motions for resolutions on human trafficking and human rights violations linked to the recruitment of non-Russian nationals for Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine; the arbitrary detention of President Mohamed Bazoum by the junta in Niger; and the case of Elene Khoshtaria and political prisoners under the Georgian Dream regime in Georgia;
  • the calculation of emission credits for heavy-duty vehicles for the 2025-2029 reporting periods; and
  • a resolution on the World Trade Organisation’s 14th Ministerial Conference in Yaoundé, 26 to 29 March 2026.
