The US President’s speech to the nation was record-long. Not everything Trump mentioned is true. A fact check.
Trump’s “State of the Union” speech to the nation lasted almost two hours on Tuesday. That’s a record. But anyone who knows the US President knows that he doesn’t always take the truth so seriously. A small selection from his latest speech.
According to Trump, he has secured $18 trillion in investments from around the world since taking office again. This information can be quickly checked. Because the White House lists the investments on its own website. And there is a completely different number: 9.7 trillion US dollars, a good half of the amount that Trump mentioned.
It cannot be said with certainty whether the White House’s figure is overestimated. An analysis by CNN showed in October that vague commitments for investments were also included. Projects initiated before this period are also included, reports the New York Times.
