After the violent death of “Harry and Sally” director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, the couple’s son, who was charged with murder, pleaded “not guilty” in court, US media reported. The 32-year-old appeared in court in Los Angeles on Monday for the arraignment reading in a brown jumpsuit. He is assisted by a public defender. The next court date was scheduled for the end of April.

The public prosecutor’s office charged the 32-year-old with two counts of murder in mid-December. If convicted, he faces life in prison and possibly even the death penalty. Nick Reiner was arrested in Los Angeles around six hours after police discovered his parents dead in their home in the Brentwood district. They had died from stab wounds.
The son is said to have recently lived in a guest house on his parents’ property, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing family friends. In the past, Nick Reiner has repeatedly spoken publicly about his struggle with drug addiction and mental health problems.
Rob Reiner, director of hit films such as “Harry and Sally,” “Misery” and “A Question of Honor,” was 78 years old. His wife Michele (70) works as a photographer and film producer. The couple, married since 1989, had three children together: Jake, Nick and Romy. The director also adopted the daughter of his first wife, Penny Marshall. (sda/dpa)
