The 52-year-old suffers from chronic pulmonary fibrosis. In December it was announced that she needed a lung transplant. Preparations for this are now said to have been initiated.
“The Crown Princess increasingly needs appropriate training, rest and recovery,” said palace spokeswoman Sara Svanemyr to the magazine “Se og Hør”. Her official program was also adjusted according to her state of health.
The Norwegian Palace announced Mette-Marit’s illness in October 2018. The illness is progressive. Crown Prince Haakon’s wife has withdrawn from the public eye in the last few weeks. She has not attended any official appointments since the end of January. (dab)
