Music icon Cher caused confusion with her performance at the Grammys in Los Angeles. The 79-year-old was first invited onto the stage to receive an honorary award. Afterwards she wanted to leave the stage again – apparently the plan was for her to present the award for the best recording of the year. Only after presenter Trevor Noah called for her to stay on stage did Cher return.

The musician also seemed confused at the following awards ceremony. So she initially hesitated to read out the winner, which was written on a card she was holding in her hand. “I was told that it was shown on a prompter,” Cher said, which caused laughter in the audience. She then announced:
“Oh, the Grammy goes to Luther Vandross!”
This once again caused confusion and laughter in the room – because the musician Luther Vandross has been dead for 21 years. Cher’s confusion may have arisen from the fact that the actual winner, Kendrick Lamar, was awarded for his song “Luther”, which is named after Vandross and uses part of his music. A few seconds later, Cher realized her mistake and corrected herself.
