More than 150 people were temporarily taken into custody after a violent confrontation between fans. The incidents occurred on Saturday evening after the Bundesliga game between the two clubs, which BVB won 3-2.
According to the police, an escalation occurred during the departure of several buses with HSV supporters on a central street. Accordingly, numerous fans from both camps met there and had a mass brawl in the street. Several hundred people are said to have been involved.
The background to the mass brawl is still unclear
The police intervened with a large contingent, including a hundred police officers, to bring the situation under control. When the forces arrived, according to observations on site, many of those involved fled on foot. Nevertheless, many suspects were identified.
As the police announced on Sunday, A total of 152 people were temporarily taken into custody. After initial interviews, criminal charges were filed against them for breach of the peace, and the majority of them were HSV fans. Some BVB supporters were also temporarily arrested.
The police explained the possible cause: “We suspect that the event was arranged.” However, the investigation into the background is still ongoing. One indication of this is, among other things, the location of the altercation, which was not on the usual bus route from the stadium towards the motorway.
Information on injuries was initially not available, and none were reported among the officers deployed. During the course of the night, all those arrested were released. The police announced further details for Monday and emphasized: “The investigation is ongoing.”
