An officer was killed in an attack on the National Intelligence Service compound in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. The secret service spoke of a “terrorist attack carried out by lawless groups”. It was initially unclear who was responsible for the attack.
This was seen as an attempt to stop the intelligence service from doing its work, it was said. The authority emphasized that the perpetrators would be pursued, arrested and brought to justice.
The Iraqi news agency INA had previously reported that a drone had crashed on the grounds of the intelligence agency’s headquarters in the Mansur district of Baghdad. It is unclear whether there is a connection to the Iran War, against which there were repeated attacks by pro-Iranian militias in Iraq. (sda/dpa)
