After two days of chaos due to a train accident in northeastern Spain that left one dead, local and regional trains in Catalonia have resumed operations.
This was announced by the Catalan railway company Rodalies. Meanwhile, the cause of the devastating collision between two high-speed trains in Andalusia on Sunday evening remains unclear.

Rail operations in Catalonia, which are used by an average of 400,000 people per day, were suspended after a local train collided with a fallen retaining wall near the town of Gelida on Tuesday evening. The accident killed one of the two train drivers and dozens of passengers were injured, five of them seriously.
The cancellation of the trains was a travel problem, especially for commuters. Many tried to get to work by car, but were sometimes stuck in long traffic jams. Others crowded into crowded replacement buses.

The accident in Catalonia occurred two days after the devastating collision between two high-speed trains in Andalusia, in the south of the country. 45 people were killed, including a German. The number of injuries was given as 123. According to information from Thursday, 31 were still in hospitals, six of them in intensive care units.

The cause was still unclear. Both track damage and a fault on one of the trains were considered possible. Spain’s Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska ruled out sabotage. (sda/dpa)
