A French diplomat has found himself in the crosshairs of the judiciary as a result of the Epstein revelations. As French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced, he has called in the public prosecutor’s office to have the alleged facts examined.
He also initiated an administrative investigation and disciplinary proceedings. “The incidents are extremely serious, I was horrified,” Barrot told broadcaster RTL.
No connection to sex crimes
According to French media reports, the diplomat, who was recently released to work in the private sector, is said to have exchanged dozens of emails with the US multimillionaire and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which do not link him to his sex crimes.
Above all, it is said to have been about business and money, and the diplomat, who was working at the United Nations in New York at the time, is said to have used his connections to help Epstein penetrate the highest circles of power. He is also said to have passed on confidential documents to Epstein. (sda/dpa)
