Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have escalated following mutual attacks. Pakistani security circles confirmed to the German Press Agency that a drone hit a building on the outskirts of the capital Islamabad in the early evening (local time). The attack was on a military installation. Two more drones were shot down and a resident was injured.
Afghan air forces had attacked the military facility at the junction of Islamabad and the garrison city of Rawalpindi. This was reported by the Afghan Ministry of Defense on Platform X. The attack is the first in this conflict on targets near the Pakistani capital.
Last night, Pakistan’s air force attacked targets in Afghanistan’s interior. According to the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (Unama), there were several casualties. At least four civilians were killed and 14 others injured in attacks on the capital Kabul, Unama said on X.
The air strikes mark a renewed escalation of the conflict, which was recently limited to the countries’ border regions. The fighting broke out at the end of February. Islamabad accuses the Islamist Taliban in Kabul of harboring terrorists who carry out attacks in Pakistan. Kabul rejects this. (sda/dpa)
