According to media reports, at least 14 people died in a fire in a three-story building in the Indian city of Lucknow. Most of the victims were mostly younger people, the newspaper “The Indian Express” and other Indian media reported, citing the authorities in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. The first floor is said to have contained, among other things, an animation studio where numerous young people were staying.
Several people in the house, which was used as a commercial building, were reportedly injured. Among other things, a pet shop was operated on the ground floor.
It is believed that numerous people were trapped as the fire spread quickly, the broadcaster NDTV reported. Several people jumped from the first floor to save themselves. The fire was brought under control after more than an hour. The cause of the accident was initially unclear. Authorities announced a thorough investigation. (sda/dpa)
