Following the agreement between the US and Iran, the first Iranian ships have crossed the area in the Gulf of Oman affected by the US naval blockade, according to state media. At least three oil tankers and two cargo ships passed through the zone on Monday evening without incident, the Iranian broadcaster Press TV reported, citing well-informed circles.
After weeks of negotiations, the USA and Iran agreed on a framework agreement to end the war on Monday night, which is to be signed in Switzerland on Friday. A key controversial issue until the end was the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran is said to have given in here and promised to open the strait after the signing. In return, Trump said he ordered the US naval blockade of Iranian ports to be lifted immediately. This fulfilled one of the Iranians’ main demands.
The TankerTrackers service, which monitors ship movements, also reported on Platform X that a supertanker loaded with two million barrels of Iranian crude oil had broken through the US Navy’s blockade line. Other tankers are near the line or no longer in Iranian ports. (sda/dpa)
