According to the New York Times, US President Donald Trump has announced consequences in the event that no agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program is reached after the framework agreement with Iran has been concluded.

He will resume military strikes or make the USA the “guardian of the Middle East” and as such collect 20 percent of the region’s revenue in the future, the newspaper quotes him from a telephone conversation with him on the evening of his 80th birthday on Sunday (local time).
The New York Times reported Trump’s statements from the conversation almost exclusively indirectly. According to the US President, the agreement will ultimately ensure that the Strait of Hormuz remains “permanently free of tolls”.
After weeks of negotiations, the USA and Iran had previously agreed on a framework agreement to resolve the war. The agreement is to be signed on Friday in Switzerland. The agreement is intended to lay the foundation for negotiations on issues such as Tehran’s nuclear program.
Trump: If Iran had the bomb, Israel wouldn’t be there for two hours
According to the newspaper, in the almost half-hour conversation with the New York Times, Trump once again defended his decision to attack Iran at the end of February and to impose a naval blockade against Iran after the closure of the strait that is essential for oil trade. In doing so, he reshaped the Middle East in favor of the USA, the newspaper quoted Trump as saying.
He once again criticized Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: “He’s a very difficult guy,” said Trump about his ally, whose military strikes in Lebanon had recently jeopardized the agreement with Iran. “He should be very grateful to us for doing this. Because if Iran had a nuclear weapon, Israel wouldn’t be there for two hours.”

The framework agreement initially does not contain any agreement on the Iranian nuclear program. Trump also remained vague in the interview: His agreement would ensure that Iran “cannot develop or acquire a nuclear weapon” and that uranium enrichment would remain “forever” at such a low level that it “could never be used for the military.” (hkl/sda/dpa)
