In order to make peace with the USA, Iran will forgo continuing its nuclear program. Several media outlets reported this unanimously on Friday evening.
CNN is based on reports from a diplomat, a government official and Iranian media. Accordingly, the peace agreement provides for three essential points:
- The Strait of Hormuz should reopen. Iran should no longer be allowed to impose transit tariffs. According to Iranian media, Iran insisted on maintaining control over shipping traffic through the strait.
- Iran has decided not to continue its nuclear program. That was the demand of the US government. Iran is complying by destroying and disposing of all remaining nuclear material. In contrast, the Iranian media only says that there will be a 60-day negotiation phase after the signing of the agreement.
- Iranian accounts will remain frozen until Iran implements the negotiated points of the agreement.
According to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the USA and Iran have agreed on a final text. “Peace has never been closer,” Sharif wrote on X.
