Mette-Marit suffers from the incurable disease pulmonary fibrosis, which scars the tissue of the organ and makes breathing difficult. Last week it was announced that she had been placed on the waiting list for a lung transplant. Mette-Marit’s doctor said her condition had worsened significantly over the past six months.
Accordingly, Haakon will adapt his program in the future “in order to spend more time with the Crown Princess during this phase”.
According to the court, the illness has consequences for the entire crown prince family. The crown prince couple will not celebrate their silver wedding anniversary in August as planned. The crown prince will also not attend the golden wedding of the Swedish royal couple on June 13th, the royal family said in a statement.
Mette-Marit’s daughter is canceling her semester abroad
Princess Ingrid Alexandra (22), the daughter of Mette-Marit and Haakon, has traveled back to Oslo from her stay abroad at the University of Sydney to be closer to her family. According to the court, her brother, Prince Sverre Magnus (20), will study at a university in Europe from autumn as planned. However, he wanted to come home if “the situation required it”.
Marius Borg Høiby (29), Mette-Marit’s son from a previous relationship, is currently in custody awaiting his verdict in an internationally acclaimed trial. He is charged with 40 counts, including rape under Norwegian law. Because of his mother’s serious illness, he had applied for release from custody. However, the application was ultimately rejected.
