A report from the British Court of Auditors has caused unrest around ex-Prince Andrew in recent days. It was initially revealed that he had three cottages on the site of his former residence, the Royal Lodge, sublet and keep the income yourself had. Now another detail from the same report has been released.
Accordingly, Andrew faces one after he moves out of the Royal Lodge Compensation of up to £488,342 to, converted around 521,000 Swiss francs. The basis for this lies in a contract that Andrew concluded in 2003 with the Crown Estate, the property management company of the British Crown.

At that time he was given a 75-year lease on the Royal Lodge. In return, he made a one-off payment of one million pounds and committed to investing around 7.5 million pounds (around 8 million francs) in the renovation of the property. The current rent, on the other hand, was symbolic: a so-called “peppercorn rent” that was practically zero pounds. The contract also contained an exit clause: If the Royal Lodge was returned early, Andrew could reclaim part of his investment. According to the Court of Auditors report, he would be entitled to between 301,967 and 488,342 pounds, which is equivalent to between around 322,000 and 521,000 francs.
It is still unclear whether he will receive the full amount. The Royal Lodge will be inspected before return. Any damage or necessary repairs will be deducted from the compensation. According to the report, Andrew’s lease runs until October 30, 2026, by which date the property must be returned to the Crown Estate at the latest.
Andrew had to leave Royal Lodge at the beginning of February 2026 and initially moved to Wood Farm before moving to Marsh Farm on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk at Easter 2026. The background to his withdrawal from the inner circle of the royal family is his Connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison in 2019.
“No one wants to have anything to do with him anymore”
A palace employee told “Bild”: “The mood in the palace is very bad. The Court of Auditors’ report worries many – especially the royal family.” King Charles III have been trying since he took office To set up the monarchy in a more modern way. The employee continued: “Andrew is in isolation today. Nobody wants anything to do with him anymore. But the report makes it clear how well he lived.” About Charles it was said: “The king is suffering greatly from the scandal. He is torn. Loyalty to his younger brother on the one hand. And responsibility towards the royal finances and the public on the other hand.”
The comptroller’s report also shines a light on Andrew’s daughters. Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have lived in royal residences for almost 20 years without paying rent. As of 2008, both lived rent-free in St. James’s Palace. Eugenie moved into Ivy Cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace in 2018. The housing costs were covered by the so-called “Privy Purse”, King Charles’ private assets.
