According to the television channel i24News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may be prepared to launch an independent military strike against Iran without US support. The broadcaster referred to a cabinet meeting on Monday evening and quoted Netanyahu as saying: “It could be that we end up in a situation in which we face the Iranians alone, without the backing of the USA – with all the associated costs: arms spending and global isolation.”
Israel did not want it to come to that, but knew that it could come to that, said Netanyahu.
US President Donald Trump had previously warned the Israeli head of government against going it alone. The US government is currently negotiating a framework agreement with Tehran to diplomatically resolve the regional conflict.
