The EU has paid out further financial aid to Ukraine amounting to almost 2.8 billion euros (around 2.57 billion francs).
“Ukraine’s pace and commitment to implementing significant reforms have justified this payment,” said EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said the money should be used to finance key government spending, including social and humanitarian needs.
According to the EU Commission, the payment is now the seventh from the so-called Ukraine Facility. Through this financing instrument, up to 50 billion euros should be able to go to the country attacked by Russia by the end of 2027.
According to the latest EU information, since the Russian invasion began in 2022, the EU and its member states have pledged aid worth almost 205 billion euros – from military and financial support to help for refugees. Of this, 3.8 billion euros came from income from the custody of frozen Russian assets. (nil/sda/dpa)
