According to the local Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) The earthquake on the island of Mindanao had a magnitude of 7.8. This is a high value, although not quite as high as in the devastating disasters of Fukushima in 2011 (9.0) and in Southeast Asia in 2004 (9.1). Tsunami waves are still likely, and the institute issued a corresponding warning. People near the coast should get to safety as quickly as possible.
