For the play “The Little Mermaids”, Kim de l’Horizon was awarded the Mülheim Drama Prize and secured the Audience Prize.
The premiere of the play “The Little Mermaid Grays” by the Bern Theaters, directed by Alia Luque, was shown at the Theater Days. According to a statement based on Andersen’s fairy tale, it tells a story about longing, love and the social pressure to adapt.
The five-person jury praised the “effervescent, dense and humorous language play” of the non-binary cultural worker from Switzerland. The very theatrical text advocates overcoming differences and thus opens up a utopian space. The prize is endowed with 15,000 euros. Kim de l’Horizon only narrowly emerged victorious. Two of the five jury votes went to “Notes from a White Room” by Anna Behringer.
Kim de l’Horizon caused quite a stir with her debut novel “Blood Book”. The work has now been translated into 17 languages and won, among other things, the German and Swiss Book Prizes in 2022. Kim de l’Horizon was represented in Mühlheim for the first time. (sda/apa)
