In Volzhsky in the Volgograd region, a 60-year-old man died in a plastic fiber factory, Governor Andrei Bocharov announced. A 55-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
There was also a fire in an unspecified energy facility in the south of Volgograd (formerly Stalingrad). A residential building in the region was also damaged.
Yaroslavl region and port city of Temryuk affected
According to authorities, there was also a massive Ukrainian drone attack in the Yaroslavl region. Industrial facilities for storing fuel were hit, said Governor Mikhail Yevrayev. A fire is being extinguished. There are no injuries. The road to Moscow had to be closed temporarily.
According to authorities, a fire also broke out in the port city of Temryuk after debris from a downed drone crashed. It was said that there were no injuries in the health resort on the Sea of Azov, the northern tributary of the Black Sea.
Russia reports 208 Ukrainian drones shot down
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, 208 drones were shot down on Friday night. The information cannot be independently verified. It was said that there were Ukrainian attacks in 13 regions. As always, the ministry did not provide any information on the total number of drones used by Kiev or on hits.
In contrast, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia had attacked Ukraine with an Iskander ballistic missile and 232 drones. 217 drones were rendered harmless, but there were also impacts. Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense did not provide any further information about the hits or damage.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously announced drone attacks in the Russian hinterland. According to his account, the attacks, for example on oil industry facilities, are intended to deprive Moscow of income from energy exports, which is important for the war economy. Another goal is to force the aggressor to the negotiating table through the pressure of the attacks – for a just end to the war, Zelensky explained. (sda/dpa)
