Because Russia has suffered heavy losses in its war of aggression against Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin is trying to recruit new soldiers by canceling debts. This is reported by the news agency Reuters.
On Monday evening, the Russian President announced the signing of a new decree: people who undertake military service and their spouses will be exempt from debts of up to ten million rubles (approx. 109,300 Swiss francs), writes “Reuters”.
This regulation applies retroactively from May 1st. However, there must have been a legal right to collect the debt before this date. So people cannot take on new debts now and then pay them off in war. In addition, the soldiers must commit to at least one year of military service in Ukraine.
According to an estimate by Economist Between 280,000 and 518,000 Russian soldiers have died between the beginning of the war and May 12th. Die hohen Verluste erschweren es dem Regime, Kämpfer zu rekrutieren. The new law is another attempt by the government to counteract this. (Nile)
