A 19-year-old German had a fatal accident during a mountain tour on the Tyrolean part of the Zugspitze on the night of Thursday to Friday. He slipped on a snowfield and slid 250 meters over steep and rocky terrain.
On Thursday evening, the young man and a Ukrainian of the same age set off from the valley station of the Zugspitzbahn in Ehrwald via the Stopselzieh via ferrata towards the summit, equipped only with hiking boots, headlamps and Grödeln. Halfway there, the two had to cross a snow field. The German in front slipped and slid 250 meters over steep and rocky terrain.
His companion made an emergency call. The 19-year-old Ukrainian was rescued uninjured by members of the Ehrwald mountain rescue service and an emergency helicopter with a cable winch. The mountaineer who died in an accident was rescued by a helicopter and flown into the valley. (sda/apa)
