A mother and three of her children jumped to their death from the 13th floor of a high-rise building in Toulon, southern France. The prefecture spoke of a terrible tragedy in which the woman and three children died.
The police prefect, the public prosecutor and the mayor of the city went to the scene of the dramatic event. The authorities suspect that the woman has psychological problems as a background.
The body of the 38-year-old mother of seven underage children was found early in the morning at the foot of her home, said public prosecutor Raphaël Balland, as the newspaper “Var-Matin” reported. “Surrounding them lay the bodies of their three youngest children, aged three, four and six. Two boys and a girl, all three dead.” The woman is said to have recently exhibited psychiatric and depressive symptoms. “There is currently no evidence that another person was involved in this tragic incident.” The dead should be autopsied.
“The mother lived alone with her children. The family was not known to the public prosecutor because there was no indication of possible social or family difficulties,” said Balland. The four oldest children were looked after by the authorities and received psychological support. (sda/dpa)
